English Language Arts A10 course consists of two units of study. Through essays, poems, short stories, novels, movies, plays and various other media, students will gain more knowledge surrounding the theme of the first unit: "Challenges of Life". Sub-topics include: "Destiny", "Foundational Stories" and "Decisions". The play and movie The Miracle Worker is studied in this unit as well as a novel of the students' choice about someone who has experienced challenges in their life.
"The Mysteries of Life" is the second unit of study which includes the ideas of "The Fantastic", "Mysteries of This World", "Imagination" and "Mysterious Brain". Students will enjoy the novel The Giver by Lois Lowry and the film "I Am" as they are both reflective of "The Fantastic" and of "Mysteries of This World".
Not only will the students be taking in these literary creations, they will create their own as well. They will express their thoughts, ideas and beliefs regarding the above themes by participating in oral readings, forums, presentations, writing letters, memos, legends, journal entries and creating personas, reviews, technical reports and special projects.
